Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, said that the Cabinet decided Sunday to disburse, next week, JD1 million to farmers, affected by the drought of the Al-Wala Dam, and to pay the dues of those affected by the cross-border fires that ravaged about 150 dunums in the Jordan Valley area in the northern Jordan Valley.
Hneifat indicated that the Ministry of Agriculture addressed the Cabinet on compensating farmers and followed up on procedures for this matter, after mandating specialized committees to limit the damages in the northern Jordan Valley and the Al-Wala Dam and the Cabinet agreed to disburse compensation sums from the Agricultural Risk Fund.
"The government is aware of the size of farmers losses, and these decisions have been taken to enable farmers to continue operations of the agricultural sector and mitigate damages effects," the minister explained.
He added that the government, through diplomatic frameworks, is continuing to work on collecting costs of damages from the culprit across the border.
