In the presence of JICA Chief Representative, Chie Miyahara, Minister of Education, Wajih Owais, lauded the partnership between the Ministry and JICA, praising it’s continued support for the educational development in Jordan.

He also underlined JICA's role in establishing the common goal of providing quality education to all students in Jordan through the preparation of the necessary plans and the design of educational interventions and activities aimed at strengthening the education environment in supporting children.

He said he was looking forward to greater cooperation and partnership in the quest to improve the educational environment.

For her part, Miyahara pointed out that Jordan is distinguished for its high level of statistics in the field of education in the region, but there are challenges such as overcrowding inside classrooms and decreasing in time of study in school that cause many students to drop out of school. These challenges should be addressed to achieve sustainable development goal (SDG), which is to provide education for all and leaving no one behind.

She commended Jordanian government's efforts to support children who drop out, noting that the review of the Ministry's Educational Strategic Plan (ESP) in December 2021 was based on the necessary adjustments in providing such support.

She referred to Japan's pioneering experience in achieving enrolment levels through high-quality education based on creating a comprehensive positive learning environment for all children, including those most vulnerable to drop-outs.

The project aims to create a positive learning environment model to create an enabling environment for children to feel safe and encouraged, including the development of guidelines for school activity for practical use by teachers and school management.
