Ammon News - Jordan on Monday is forecast to come under the grip of a polar air mass accompanied by a depression centered over Cyprus, pushing temperatures significantly down and bringing chilly and cloudy weather with rainfall starting from the northern and central regions and extending to the southwestern areas, with thunder and hail at times, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said.
A chance for snow showers mixed with rain is also forecast over the high mountain peaks, while winds will be southwesterly to westerly with strong gusts exceeding 80 km/h and blowing dust. The downpour is expected to be heavy at times, forming flash floods in valleys and lowlands, the JMD added.
The weather department also warned of poor visibility over the highlands, the southern and eastern parts of the country due to dust and fog formation, strong winds, falsh floods and slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain and snow, as well as of high sea waves and low horizontal visibility due to dust in the Gulf of Aqaba.
As we head into Tuesday, the Kingdom will remain under the impact of the very cold and wet front, so bitter cold and cloudy weather conditions will continue to prevail along with intermittent rain in the northern and central highlands, while winds will be southwesterly, picking up and stirring dust in the southern and eastern areas, the forecasters predicted.
The highs in Amman and other highlands across Jordan today will range between 5 and 8 degrees Celsius, dropping at night to 5C or even 1C in the southern highlands. In the Gulf city of Aqaba, it will be warmer with mercury levels reaching a high of 18C and a low of 9C.
