Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali Saturday urged the industrial sector to step up visits to Iraq to enhance economic ties between the two neighbouring countries, as part of three-way cooperation along with Egypt, to capitalize on opportunities at hand.
During a meeting with members of the board of directors of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry and industrialists who recently visited Baghdad, the minister urged them to focus on sectoral visits to reach out to their Iraqi peers.
Noting the recent summits between His Majesty King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, Ali stressed the importance of further work to cement economic cooperation between the three countries, especially in the industrial field.
She said that Jordanian and Iraqi government officials are in contact to address hurdles facing trade exchange and simplify procedures for businessmen and investors.
The minister urged industrialists to participate in an exhibition of Jordanian products in Baghdad in December, and thanked the Iraqi government for providing facilities to the Jordan Chamber of Industry by allocating space at the Baghdad International Fair to display Jordanian goods.
Industrial sector representatives briefed the minister on the outcome of their trip, stressing the need to increase visits to Iraq as a key export market for the Kingdom.
