Ammon News - Over 1,500 products manufactured in Jordan are exported to 130-140 countries globally, according to an official at the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI).
“More than 230,000 Jordanians are employed in the industrial sector,” Mohammad Salahat, the spokesperson of the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI), told The Jordan Times.
He added that the US, India, Saudi Arabia and Iraq accounted for more than half of the ACI’s exports during the first eight months of 2021.
A new fund to help national industries access global markets is a part of the government’s economic priorities programme for 2021-2023, aimed to help the Kingdom recover from the pandemic, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
“Jordan’s top exports are Potassic Fertiliser, Calcium Phosphates, Packaged Medicaments, Knit Sweaters and Mixed Mineral or Chemical Fertilisers,” according to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OES)’s website.
OES data is collected from private sector, public sector and academia, the website read. The index added that Jordan was the world’s biggest exporter of “Phenol derivatives”.
Salahat pointed out that joint efforts between the public and private industrial sectors have contributed to the foundation of “Jordan Exports”, the first Jordanian trading house.
“Jordan Exports” is also considered the company that promotes national exports and is responsible for developing the Jordan’s export sector.
“Forty-five per cent of the products available in the Jordanian market are manufactured or produced in Jordan,” Petra reported.
Experts in the industry sector encourage the ACI to participate in and organise international trade fairs to explore international markets, as well as to introduce locally manufactured products to global markets, according to Petra.
