The agreement, which was reached after a meeting between Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity Abdel Hamid Al-Dbaiba, is "a positive step, which private hospitals have waited for long," the association said in a press release. Association President Fawzi Hammouri expressed the hope that the joint Jordanian-Libyan committee will get down to work soon and speed up the payment of hospital dues, taking into account the financial burdens and pressures hospitals have faced due to the delays. Libyan debts to private hospitals stood at $150 million, including doctors’ fees and bills to medical equipment warehouses, Hammouri pointed out, adding that collecting the debts will help improve the financial conditions of the hospitals.

The Jordan Private Hospitals Association Monday welcomed an agreement reached by Jordan and Libya to form a joint ministerial committee to settle outstanding Libyan government debts to the Kingdom's hospitals and set a timeframe for repayment.
