Jordan's olive harvest expected to stand at 170k tonnes in 2021- agriculture minister

Ammon News - Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, said olive crop production for the current season is expected to reach 170,000 tonnes, adding that quantities to be pressed will amount to 131, 000 tonnes.

Jordan's olive oil production is expected to reach 21, 000 tonnes, while quantities that will be pickled will reach 39,000 tonnes, according to the minister.

Hneifat, in a press statement on Sunday, noted quantity of olive harvest 2021 has dropped due to climate factors, varying temperature levels during the blooming period, and drought in Jordan's southern regions, adding that the production, however, remains "close" to the average.

The government, he noted, worked to allocate JD1 for he purpose of supporting exports of surplus olive oil to avoid pile-up and address marketing distortions.
