Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The younger brother of Syrian President Bashar Assad, Majd Assad, passed away Saturday in Damascus.
Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that Majd Assad died at the age of 35 at a Damascus hospital after suffering from an incurable disease he had been battling with for a long time.
A funeral ceremony will be held on Sunday afternoon in the Assad family's hometown, Al Qardaha, on the shores of the Mediterranean.
The late Majd Assad was born in Latakia in 1966 and had graduated from the Economics Department at Damascus University in 1989 with an engineering degree.
President Bashar Assad's eldest brother was killed in a car accident in January 1994 near Damascus International Airport.
King Abdullah II phoned Syrian President Bashar Assad today conveying his condolences in the death of Majd Assad.
The King wished the Syrian President and his family solace and strength to endure their grief, and wished God's mercy on the deceased.
