17-08-2021 04:52 PM

Ammon News -

Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali said Tuesday that the National Trade Coalition has a key role to increase economic cooperation between Jordan and the United States and maximize the benefits from the free trade agreement signed by the two countries.

She told the sixth annual meeting of the National Trade Coalition, which was held to discuss priorities and strategic activities for the years 2021-2022, that His Majesty King Abdullah's recent visit to the United States and his talks with President Joe Biden and members of Congress will further enhance economic cooperation between the two countries, which requires joint action between the public and private sectors in the coming period.

Ali said that her ministry supports all efforts to raise the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries and boost Jordanian products in the US market.

US ambassador Henry Wooster said that the embassy is keen to dispel the misconception that the Jordan-US free trade agreement is only for large companies, stressing that small and medium companies from both countries can benefit from it as well.

Jordan Chamber of Industry President Fathi Jaghbir said that the United States is a key trading partner as Jordanian exports to the US market marked a significant rise after the free trade agreement entered into force, noting that the coalition supports trade exchange between the two countries.

Jaghbir called on industrial and service companies to explore the opportunities offered by the agreement through the National Trade Coalition programs.

The participants in the meeting discussed priorities and strategic measures for the next two years that will help Jordanian industrial and service sector companies recover from the challenges imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
