Government meets private sector reps

Ammon News - Cabinet ministers have met with private sector representatives to discuss the government's priorities over the next two years, the policies and reforms needed for development, creating job opportunities and the support that economy sector needs.

The ministers of Planning and International Cooperation, Tourism and Antiquities, Energy and Mineral Resources, Industry, Trade and Supply, Finance, Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and Labor on Wednesday met with the Jordan Strategy Forum as part of a government meeting series with the private sector.

Minister Planning and International Cooperation Maher Shraideh underlined the importance of pinpointing the government's priorities for the next two years following the reopening of the various economic sectors, the developments in the epidemiological situation, the recovery of the economy and the need to focus efforts on getting the national economy back on track to recover and grow.

Shraideh pointed out that the challenges facing the national economy are high unemployment, slow growth, and a decline in foreign direct investments, in addition to the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic at the local and global levels.

The government had prepared its 2021-2023 government priorities document under the Letter of Designation and the Jordan Vision 2025, in addition to sectorial strategies and Sustainable Development Goals, and the 2021-2024 Indicative Executive Program.

The priorities are aimed at stimulating the private sector to create job opportunities, increase local and foreign investment, and increase national exports, through a set of measures and reforms that in three key areas, two of which are concerned with priorities at the macro level, and the third at the level of targeted sectors, namely tourism, industry, information technology and agriculture.

Vice president of the forum's administrative body Karim Kawar stressed the importance of participation between the public and private sectors to reach the desired recovery and alleviate the economic effects of the pandemic.

He also underscored the importance of implementing the government's priorities for economic recovery and boosting the role of promising sectors in economic development, such as the food and pharmaceutical industries sector.
