PM launches nationwide clean-up campaign

28-07-2021 01:30 AM

Ammon News -

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Tuesday led a ceremony to launch a nationwide clean-up campaign, which is organized by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with public institutions and civil society organizations, and dubbed "With determination, we protect our environment".

The campaign, which kicked off at Ghamadan Park south of Amman, targets public parks, forests, city centers and major roads across the Kingdom, and aims to crackdown on "the phenomenon of random dumping of waste, which has negative effects on public facilities, parks and tourist attractions."

In remarks during the ceremony, the prime minister cited royal directives that underscore environmental protection and cleanliness, which are part of our traditions, stressing the need to promote cleanliness and environmental protection as "an entrenched culture and sustainable approach in our daily behaviours."

A clean environment, Khasawneh said, is key to tourism promotion and attracting foreign visitors to the Kingdom, stressing the need to spread awareness about negative practices and negligence that lead to accidents and forest fires.

He also urged adherence to health prevention requirements and stepped-up vaccinations against the coronavirus as "the only way to protect us and avoid a return to restrictive measures that affect our economy and the citizens' livelihoods."

For his part, Environment Minister Nabil Masarweh said his ministry had launched a national environment awareness blueprint, including nationwide clean-up campaigns, "like the one we launched today," which enhance a sense of citizenship and raise public awareness, noting that environmental protection is a key goal of sustainable development.
