Ammon News - Jordan on Sunday slammed Israel's continued violations in the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram al-Sharif, the latest of which was today's storming of the holy compound by extremist settlers under Israeli police protection.
"The Israeli actions against the mosque are rejected and condemned, and represent a violation of the historical and legal status quo, international law, and Israel's obligations as an occupying power in East Jerusalem," said Daifallah al-Fayez, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Sunday.
Al-Fayez indicated that the ministry sent today an official letter of protest calling on Israel to stop its violations and provocations, respect the historical and legal status quo, respect the sanctity of the mosque, the freedom of worshipers, and the authority of the Jordan-run Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department.
He stressed that the holy compound, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship purely for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the body that has the exclusive jurisdiction to manage all the affairs of the compound and organize entry to it.
