Ammon News -

Minister of State for Media Affairs, Sakher Dudin, said that the government's media vision depends on providing information and facts with the required speed for media outlets, to refute rumors and fake news that may impact the society.

"The new media has become an integral part of the media system with its audio, visual and print outlets, which requires accuracy when publishing information and news on social media, especially since the rate of spread rumors and incorrect news is six times greater than the rate of circulation of correct information according to studies specialized in content analysis on social media platforms," Dudin said during his visit to the Media Commission on Sunday.

In a meeting with the Media Commission Director General, Tareq Abu Al Raghib, and the Commission department heads, Dudin underlined the importance of the Media Commission's role as a censorship tool for the media in Jordan, pointing out that the concept of censorship doesn't mean restricting freedoms, but rather controlling violations or content that violates professional ethics and legislation governing media work, and the society's customs and traditions.

Dudin, who is also the government spokesman, referred to the Jordanian proposal he presented during the fifty-first session meeting of the Council of Arab Media Ministers, which was held last month at the Arab League in Cairo, which calls for the importance of expediting the framing of the legal relationship with international media companies, their platforms and applications; which is done via mechanisms of joint Arab action.

Doudin noted that the Jordanian proposal was welcomed by the Council of Arab Media Ministers, and the Council decided to form an Arab committee headed by Jordan and the membership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Lebanon and Mauritania, in order to prepare an integrated plan to develop the organizational and strategic framework for the online media.

For his part, the Media Commission Director General underscored the commission's regulatory and supervisory role towards operating media organizations, pointing out to the commission's endeavor to propose legislation keen to control and regulate digital content in the Kingdom, with an emphasis on respecting freedom of opinion and expression.

During the meeting, a discussion was held with heads of departments in the commission on the importance of updating the legislation regulating the work of media organizations, and providing information to media outlets, in order to prevent the spread of rumors.

On the sidelines of the visit, the media minister opened the comprehensive media training program held by the Media Commission, with the participation of representatives of media units in public and private organization.

Dudin stressed the importance of developing the capabilities of journalists and media professionals, enabling them, and enhancing their expertise and competencies, which will positively reflect on their role in carrying out their noble mission.

He also stressed the importance of including media and information education concepts in training courses held by the commission, due to its great importance in enabling young people and future generations to adopt critical thinking, draw information from its correct sources, and immunize them from rumors and fake news.

Dudin called on participants in the training program to provide the Media Commission with a real and objective assessment of the extent to which they benefited from the training content, allowing the commission to develop this experience based on their opinions.
