Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hala Zawati, discussed on Wednesday, with Syrian counterpart, Bassam Tohmeh, and Minister of Electricity, Ghassan Al-Zamil, cooperation areas in the oil and electricity sectors and ways to enhance them to serve common interests.
The meeting, which was held in Amman and attended by energy sector's officials from the two countries, reviewed status of the electric interconnection network between Jordan and Syria and infrastructure of the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP) linking the two countries, according to a ministry's press statement.
Talks also went over ways to enhance cooperation in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency, said the statement.
Speaking at the meeting, Zawati stressed the importance of activating cooperation between the two countries in the energy field, within the framework of a policy that takes into consideration economic integration that serves common interests.
In this regard, Zawati highlighted cooperation aspects in the natural gas field and the importance of renovating AGP's nfrastructure to achieve common interests, stressing the importance of the electric interconnection system between the two countries, which forms part of the pan-Arab electric grid.
The minister also presented Jordan's experience in renewable energy and energy efficiency fields, stressing the importance of benefiting from the accumulated expertise in this field.
Tohmeh, for his part, said the two sides discussed joint cooperation in the gas area through the Arab Gas Pipeline, adding discussions went over AGP's technical status and the possibility of using it to transport gas.
The ministers also exchanged a set of ideas that could form a "solid" basis for future cooperation between the two countries to serve common interests, Tohmeh pointed out.
Al-Zamil said the two sides discussed rehabilitation of the electric interconnection line linking the two countries within the framework of the Arab Electricity Grids Interconnection Project, and plans will soon be drawn up to renovate the power interconnection line, describing today's meeting as "constructive" in terms of enhancing bilateral relations.
