Tourism income down 69.7pct in first tertile of 2021

 Jordan’s tourism revenue tumbled by 69.7 per cent in the first four months of 2021 to a total of JD237.3 million, compared to the same period of last year.

Jordanians expenditure on travel during the January-April period also dropped by 53.7 to reach JD88.4, compared to the same period of 2020. Some 339,000 travelers flew in to the Kingdom, compared to 1.515 million last year, while 355,000 travelers flew out of Jordan, compared to 1.552 million in 2020.

According to data for the Central Bank of Jordan, Jordanian expatriate remittances inched down by 12 percent at JD790.7 million, a JD10-million drop from last year. On a monthly level, remittances by Jordanian expatriates abroad stood at JD191.3 million, or 4.4 percent, during the month of April of 2021 compared to the same month of last year.
