Ammon News - The General Director of the Royal Jordanian Geographical Centre (RJGC) Muammar Haddadin, representing Jordan, chaired the meetings of the Working Group on Space Agenda 2030 of the UN’s Office for Outer Space Affairs, headquartered in Austria, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

According to a statement issued by the centre on Sunday, the group held its virtual meetings on the sidelines of the meetings of the Legal Subcommittee for the 60th session between May 31 and June 11, with the participation of about 96 countries from around the world.

The statement indicated that the agenda aims to strengthen the global partnership in exploration and innovation in the field of space, and to establish the legal system for outer space and the global governance of it.

It also aims to enhance the exchange of information on space objects and events, the international framework for space weather services, space cooperation for global health, and international cooperation aimed to mitigate emissions, enhance the ability of societies to adapt to the needs of developing countries in this field, and build capacities.

He said that the agenda seeks to improve everyone’s access to space and ensure utilisation of space science and technology applications, data, information and space products, which support the achievement of sustainable development goals.

Haddadin said that a set of recommendations were made to the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, considering space as one of the main drivers of development.

In 2011 Jordan obtained membership in the Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space and has chaired the Working Group on the Space Agenda 2030 since 2018.
