Ammon News - Jordan on Monday denounced Israel's continued violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram Al-Sharif and allowing extremists access into the holy compound under police escort during the last ten days of Ramadan.
"The Kingdom condemns and rejects the Israeli actions against the mosque, and considers it a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo, international law, Israel's obligations as the occupying power in East Jerusalem, the sanctity of the mosque and the holy month," Dhaifallah Al-Fayez, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates spokesman, said in a statement.
He stressed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram Al-Sharif, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a purely a place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jordanian-run Waqf (endowments) and Al-Aqsa Affairs Administration in Jerusalem is the sole and exclusive authority, under the international law and the historical and legal status quo, that has the jurisdiction to run all the affairs of the holy site and organize entry to and exit from the compound.
Al-Fayez pointed out that the ministry sent Monday an official letter of protest to Israel, in which it demanded that Israel ceases its violations and provocations, respect the historical and legal status quo, and the authority and powers of the Al-Aqsa Affairs Administration in Jerusalem.
He also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to pressure Israel to stop the ongoing violations against Al-Aqsa.
