Jordanian cargo trucks

Ammon News - Saudi authorities on Wednesday allowed about 100 Jordanian cargo truck to cross the border into the Gulf kingdom days after the trucks remained stranded on the border after a Saudi decision barred entry to trucks that are older than 20 years.

The move will spare truckers and cargo transport companies heavy losses resulting from the pileup of freight on the borders between the two countries, according to the President of the Jordan Truck Owners Association (JTOA), Muhammad Khair al-Dawood.

Al-Dawood said that the immediate resolution of the crisis caused by the two-day backlog of trucks is plausible but still does not provide final solutions to the issue, calling on Saudi authorities to grant Jordanian trucks a 5-year grace period to renew their fleet.

Additionally, he called for giving truckers exemptions from customs duties to replace their vehicles with new ones.
