Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh briefed the parliamentary committee set up by the Lower House of Parliament to follow up on the parliament’s recommendations related to the Coronavirus pandemic on the latest developments in the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom.

In a meeting held Sunday by the committee, in the presence of Lower House Speaker, Abdel Moneim Odat and a number of ministers, the prime minister said the strategic objective that the state is striving to achieve is the complete and comprehensive opening of all sectors as of July 1, 2021.

Khasawneh added that the government has a gradual plan to announce its measures, leading to a safe summer at the beginning of July, which includes announcing within the next 48 hours its decision that includes mitigating measures during the holy month of Ramadan until May 15, taking into account the epidemiological situation, and tightening prevention measures, and the following stage that includes a gradual opening of sectors, leading to the opening of all sectors on July 1st.

The premier indicated that intensifying the vaccination campaign against the Coronavirus during the coming period will have the largest and decisive role in reaching the comprehensive opening of sectors, pointing out that 10 million doses of vaccines have been contracted, which will enable the vaccination of about 150,000 people per day, as of May 8.

Khasawneh pointed out that the percentage of positive tests is still high and currently ranges around 10.4 percent and it does not currently allow opening the sectors, noting that the Health Ministry figures indicate that the number of infections would have increased by up to 250 percent of the numbers that were recorded without the measures of curfew and closures.

Khasawneh further stressed that decisions taken by the government are backed by scientific and health considerations and after consulting with the Epidemiology Committee and the Crisis Management Center.
