Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, who conveyed a message from His Majesty King Abdullah to His Excellency.

The message focused on joint efforts to find a political horizon to launch serious negotiations to achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution that embodies the independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Abbas sent his regards to His Majesty the King, expressing his appreciation, the Palestinian people's and leadership for the Kingdom's firm stances in standing by them and devoting all efforts to fulfilling all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

He stressed the unity of the position, the complementarity of efforts and the continuation of coordination and consultation to achieve this.

During the meeting, Safadi stressed the importance of the Palestinian leadership’s decision to hold the Palestinian elections and the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah to provide all the support the brothers need to organize the elections and to work together to remove any obstacles they face.

In joint press statements with head of the Civil Affairs Authority and the member of the Fatah Central Committee, Minister Hussein Al-Sheikh, after the meeting with President Abbas, Safadi said that the meeting came as a continuation of the uninterrupted process of communication and consultation between His Majesty King Abdullah and His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas.

Safadi added, "I arrived today in Ramallah carrying a message from His Majesty King Abdullah II to His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, centering on the joint efforts undertaken by the Kingdom and our brothers in order to take practical steps capable of breaking the deadlock and creating a political horizon that allows for the restoration of serious and effective negotiations to achieve the common and primary goal, and the strategic interest of the region and the world, which is the achievement of a just peace, which can only be achieved if the brotherly Palestinian people obtain their full legitimate rights, foremost among which is their right to an independent and sovereign state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, according to agreed terms of reference."

"His Majesty the King wanted me to convey this message to His Excellency the President now and to continue our work in coordination and consultation, because there are different circumstances regionally and internationally, especially the new US administration and its positive signs and indicators, with which we need to positively interact and put pressure to find the required momentum, in order to achieve the required progress towards the resumption of negotiations," Safadi said.

Safadi added that in addition to moving towards creating a political horizon, work is underway to crystallize an international action capable of stopping unilateral Israeli steps that undermine the two-state solution, specifically building and expanding settlements, confiscating homes, and deporting residents from their homes, as we see in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in which the Kingdom is making intensive efforts in coordination with our Palestinian brothers and the international community in order to preserve the right of these Palestinian citizens to remain in their homes."

He added, "And in coordination with our brothers, we have handed over all the documents available to us that can help Palestinian citizens to preserve their full rights."

Safadi indicated that talks touched on the (Palestinian) elections, pointing out that "the message conveyed by His Majesty the King confirms that Jordan stands with our Palestinian brothers with all our capabilities to help complete these elections and support the electoral process."

"We believe that the elections are a necessary and important step, and the Palestinian leadership has made its decision, and we are also working together to remove all obstacles facing this electoral process," he added.

"The Palestinian cause for us in the Kingdom was and will remain the main cause," Safadi stressed, emphasizing that "Jordan was and will remain the support and closest to the Palestinian brothers, and all the Kingdom's capabilities are dedicated to standing by our people and brothers in Palestine and fulfilling their legitimate rights."

"Jerusalem in particular is a red line for His Majesty the King, it is a red line for Jordan, as it is a red line for the sisterly State of Palestine, for the Palestinian people and for His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas," Safadi stressed.

He added, "We reject all measures and oppose all attempts that attempt to change the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of the occupied Jerusalem, and we also oppose any effort that tries to tamper with the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem."

Safadi said, "We share approaches, and we share visions, Jordan and Palestine have always been and will remain closest to each other, and the Jordanian effort will always be entirely directed towards supporting the brothers and ensuring their access to their legitimate rights, because Palestinian brothers' access to their legitimate rights, especially the right to freedom and the state is a condition for achieving security, stability and regional peace that we all demand."

For his part, Minister Hussein Al-Sheikh underlined that the message carried by Safadi "confirms the depth of the historical relationship and joint coordination at the highest level between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Palestine," noting that the message dealt with the latest political developments in the region, and some issues related to the Jordanian-Palestinian bilateral ties.

Al-Sheikh said, "There is a very high harmony between us and our Jordanian brothers in all files, whether it is the recent political developments in the region or with regard to Jordan's full and steadfast support for Palestinian political rights in establishing a state on the pre-June 4 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, which is a red line for Palestine and Jordan."

Al-Sheikh commended "His Majesty the King and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s support for the Palestinian elections and the Palestinian leadership’s choice to continue to go to the democratic option towards the Legislative Council and the Palestinian Presidency," adding that "Jordan also affirms its support for this option and calls on the international community to facilitate this electoral process and to overcome all difficulties in order to complete this Palestinian electoral process."
