Jordan registers 61 COVID-19 related deaths, 1596 cases

Sixty-one COVID-19 related deaths and 1596 infections were recorded on Saturday, taking the death toll to 8,178 and the caseload to 683,466, according to the daily media brief by the Health Ministry and the Prime Ministry.

The new infections were: 506 in Amman, 510 in Irbid, including 125 in Ramtha, 122 in Mafraq, 102 in Zarqa, 70 in Balqaa, 62 in Karak, 62 in Tafila, 49 in Aqaba, 47 in Ajloun, 41 in Madaba, 24 in Maan, including one case in Petra and one case in Jerash.

It said that the number of currently active cases stood at 43,344 and that 222 were today admitted to hospitals and 140 were discharged.

On the capacity of hospitals in the Kingdom, the statement said that the occupancy rate of isolation beds in the northern region was at 38 per cent, intensive care beds 63 per cent and ventilators 36 per cent.

In the Central region, isolation beds were at an occupancy rate of 42 per cent, ICU beds at 61 per cent and ventilators 35 per cent, it said.

In the south, it added, the occupancy rate of isolation beds reached 25 per cent, ICU beds 32 per cent and ventilators 25 per cent.

It said that 11,385 PCR tests were collected today, bringing the total number of tests conducted since the start of the pandemic to 6,459,718, and that the positivity rate today was about 14.02 per cent, compared to 12.41 recorded yesterday.
