Ammon News - Minister of Agriculture, Khalid Hneifat, said Saturday the Royal Air Force (RAF) has supported operations to eliminate desert locusts on vast areas that reached 7 thousand dunums of field crops in the border Al-Mudawara area.
The air operation had eliminated successfully the locust swarms by a high percentage in the border area, he noted.
The minister added that operations to battle the insects are continuing during the evening and morning periods,adding that ground spraying is used to fight swarms that cross borders irregularly, "with medium densities."
Surveillance teams maintain their survey operations to spot the infested areas, he said.
Regarding locusts entering border Ruwaished area, Hneifat said control teams conducted surveillance campaigns and spotted "median" swarms in the Rawdat Al-Bandan Reserve, adding that operations to battle the swarms have started Saturday morning that covered an area of more than three kilometers.
The minister indicated that the control teams continue to comb the border areas, along the Saudi and Iraqi borders to spot and eliminate any locust swarms crossing the borders.
