Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen held talks, over a phone call Tuesday evening, focusing on the Syrian crisis.
The talks underlined the need to intensify efforts to reach a political solution to end the Syrian crisis in a way that guarantees Syria's sovereignty and unity, roots out terrorism, restores its security and stability, and ends external interference in its internal affairs as well as creates conditions for the voluntary return of refugees.
The deputy premier voiced support for UN endeavors to solve the crisis in accordance with the UN resolution 2254, and press the Syrian parties to achieve progress in the political process, including the Constitutional Committee's meetings track.
"While we seek to achieve progress on the path of a political solution, practical steps must be taken to improve the living conditions of Syrians in various Syrian regions, including southern Syria, which will bring stability in the country," Safadi underlined.
The minister also stressed the importance of the international community to continue providing the necessary support to host countries and communities, especially in light of the unprecedented humanitarian and health situation imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Safadi highlighted the necessity to build on what was agreed upon at the 5th Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region, held last month, and to intensify efforts to secure pledges and financial assistance provided to refugees and host countries.
Safadi and Pedersen agreed to maintain coordination and cooperation on the Syrian crisis and means to provide support to Syrians hosted by the Kingdom and neighboring countries.
