PM congratulates Addustour daily on its 55th anniversary

Ammon News - Prime Minister, Dr. Bisher Khasawneh, congratulated Addustour newspaper on its 55th anniversary in a visit he made to the daily's headquarters on Sunday.

Speaking during his meeting with the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Mustafa Riyalat, its general manager, Hussein Amoush, Khasawneh said Jordan's media outlets play an "important" role in defending the country's issues and entrenching its "noble" values.

The PM said the "key" role, which the press has played and is still assuming in the Kingdom's "important, historic stages," can't be overlooked.

The PM affirmed that the government, under directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, will act to support the paper press to enable it maintain its role in the "honest" reflection of the country's visions and aspirations.

In the PM's presence, the daily launched Addustour app on cell phones, making it the first Jordanian newspaper, the second in the Arab world, and among the first 10 worldwide, to use an artificial intelligence technology that offers a voice feature to search, inquire about the daily's news.

Touring the newspaper's TV, radio studio, the PM recorded a speech, noting the paper-based press played a "pivotal" role in defending the country's issues and citizens' concerns over the first hundred years of the Jordanian state's life.

Noting the government's committment to preserving the role of paper newspapers and enhancing their work, Khasawneh said : "The role of newspapers is valued by every fair person, every Jordanian who loves his country."

Khasawneh pointed out that Jordan's printed newspapers formed a "respectable paper press that airs the state’s messages and sheds light on the country's, the citizens' issues".

On the health front, the PM said the government is aware that citizens have been "exhausted" by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has "long" repercussions on society and sectors, adding that the disease's current wave constitutes "tremendous" pressure on hospitals and their capacity due to the increasing number of new Covid-19 infections.

In this regard, the PM expressed confidence the Jordanian people will overcome the difficulties and challenges that the country is going through, including the Covid-19 pandemic.
