Ammon News - Jordan's trade deficit inched down by 16.5 percent in 2020, reaching JD6.438 billion, against JD7.705 billion in 2019.
According to a monthly report, released Wednesday, by the Department of Statistics on foreign trade in the Kingdom, the value of total exports signaled a drop of 4.5 percent in 2020, amounting to JD5.639 billion, compared with JD5.905 billion in 2019.
On the value of national exports, the report indicated a 1-percent increase, or JD5.044 billion, in 2020 compared to JD4.995 billion in 2019.
The value of re-exports amounted to JD595.3 million in 2020, a decrease of 34.6 percent from JD909 million in 2019. With regard to imports, the report revealed that they dropped by 11.3 percent to JD12.077 billion, against JD13.611 billion in the corresponding period of 2019.
The total export/import coverage ratio, the data showed, reached 46.7 percent in 2020, while in 2019, it stood at 43.4 percent, signaling an increase of 3.3 percentage points.
On a monthly level, the value of national exports increased in December 2020 by 12.1 percent, amounting to JD506.9 million, against JD452 million during the same month of 2019.
