House speaker, EU envoy talk inter-parliamentary cooperation

Ammon News - Jordan's Speaker of the House of representatives, Abdulmunim Oddat, and EU Ambassador in Amman, Maria Hadjitheodosiou, Monday, held a meeting for a discussion on the bilateral ties and the inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Oddat emphasized the importance of the Jordan-EU cooperation that serves to uphold regional peace and stability, praising the EU for its support for the Kingdom.

He iterated that the Palestinian issue is a priority for the Kingdom, as he stressed that the regional stability is now contingent upon restoring the Palestinians their legitimate rights and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state, lauding the EU for its support for the Palestinians.

On the refugees' issue, Oddat briefed Hadjitheodosiou about the burdens the Kingdom grapples with for hosting Syrian refugees, lauding the EU for its support to reducing the pressure on the Kingdom.

The meeting discussed Jordan's reform efforts, as the House Speaker said the Kingdom is keen on revising and developing the laws regulating the political life with the stated aim of including the people and political parties in the decision-making process.

In turn, Hadjitheodosiou commended Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in upholding regional peace and stability and in hosting and providing care for millions of refugees.
