Industry minister, Egyptian envoy discuss upcoming joint committee meeting

Ammon News - The Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Maha Ali, Wednesday discussed with the Egyptian Ambassador, Sherif Kamel, preparations for holding the 29th session of the Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee this month in Amman.

According to ministry press statement, the two officials discussed arrangements for technical and preparatory meetings on a draft memoranda of understanding and agreements to be submitted to the Higher Committee, in addition to the recommendations of the technical committees to be held before the Higher Committee meeting, including the joint transport and agriculture committees.

During the meeting, the minister stressed the importance of convening the joint Jordanian-Egyptian higher committee to strengthen relations between the two countries in the fields of economic, commercial and social cooperation, education, transportation, energy and others.

For his part, the Egyptian ambassador stressed the importance of such meetings to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially the economic ones, noting that the preparatory meetings will include meetings of representatives of the private sector from the two countries.

Jordan and Egypt are bound by multiple joint bilateral and regional trade agreements, most notably is the major trade exchange agreement that includes several Arab countries, the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, the 1998 bilateral free trade exchange agreement and the 2004 Agadir Agreement, in addition to cooperation agreements in the fields of energy, agriculture, customs, housing and international cooperation.
