Ammon News - A slight drop in temperatures is expected on Wednesday, so it will be cold in most parts of the country, and fair in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, with low clouds and northwesterly moderate to brisk winds, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.

At night, the Kingdom will be affected by a cold and wet air mass accompanying a depression centered over Cyprus, pushing mercury down and bringing very cold and cloudy weather with spotty showers in the northern and central regions stretching to cover the western areas, with thunder and hail at times, while winds will be northwesterly moderate to active, the JMD added.

The weather department warned of slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain, poor visibility due to fog and dust formation in the early morning and the late night hours over the highlands and the Badia.

On Thursday, the country will remain under the impact of the cold and humid front, as temperatures will further dip, making chilly and partly cloudy conditions along with intermittent rain that may turn heavy with thunder storms and hail in various regions, causing flash floods in the valleys and low-lying areas, the JMD noted.

"In the early morning hours, the southern mountain peaks will witness snow showers that may mix with rain at times," the forecasters predicted, noting that sky will start to clear in the evening and the perception will decrease, while winds will be westerly active with strong gusts, blowing dust in the Badia.

Mercury levels will rise few degrees on Friday. Therefore, the weather will become relatively cold in most regions, except in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba where it will be mild, the JMD further said.

Daytime temperatures expected for today will reach 14 degrees Celsius in Amman, 10C in the northern and southern highlands, dropping down to 5, 4 and 2C respectively at night. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 23C and lows standing at 11C, the JMD explained.
