A Cabinet session, chaired by Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, on Sunday to designate March 2 of every year as a day for Amman, as part of the Kingdom’s celebrations of the centennial of the foundation of the Jordanian state.
This decision commemorates an important milestone in the history of the Jordanian state, upon the arrival of His Majesty the late Founding King Abdullah I in Amman on March 2, 1921, as Amman became the capital of the Emirate of Transjordan, and later the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
In conjunction with this decision, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) will implement a series of media and field activities to mark the Amman Day and its historical symbolism.
The City Day is an official event that many cities around the world have been known for, during which the history of the city is evoked and its future is explored, as well as maximizing the role of its residents and visitors who the city serve, interact with and seek to create the ideal environment to achieve its future vision.
