Ammon News - Jordanian and Syrian private sector representatives have agreed that administrative restrictions on commodity exchange and fees on transit freight forwarding are the two primary hurdles to the two-way trade between Jordan and Syria.
During a meeting Thursday in Damascus between the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) and the and the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce (FSCC), both sides recommended exempting goods needed by the two countries' markets from any restrictions and called for implementing the recommendation in the Jordanian-Syrian Free Trade Zone located inside Syrian territory.
The meeting, chaired by JCC President Nael Kabariti and FSCC President Muhammad Laham, called for finding a "formula" that enables the business community to obtain entry visas for both countries, so that the JCC and the FSCC would undertake this task.
While emphasizing the necessity of reciprocal business visits, Kabariti invited the Syrian side to visit Jordan at the head of a trade delegation. The meeting called for holding business fairs and forums and proposed the launch of a Syrian business fair in the Kingdom.
Kabariti, who concluded a several-day visit to Syria on Friday, discussed with the country's Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Talal Al-Barazi ways to enhance trade exchange between the two countries.
