Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, Tuesday, reiterated the Kingdom's support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and called for kick-starting serious and effective negotiations.

Safadi, who is also the deputy prime minister, said in a ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) to coordinate the international support for the Palestinians that it is important to keep supporting the Palestinian economy.

In the virtual meeting that was chaired by the Norwegian Foreign Minister, Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide, Safadi said that although helping the Palestinian economy is important, there should be more focus on settling the decades-long conflict based on a two-state solution that would guarantee the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He emphasized that the international efforts to achieve peace are undermined due to Israel's illegal settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank. Safadi highlighted the importance of serious international efforts to make Israel stop its illegal measures against the Palestinian people.

On the financial hardship that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine in the Near East (UNRWA) grapple with, he urged funding the Agency so that it continues providing its vital services to millions of Palestinian refugees.

He expressed optimism with the new US administration and said the Kingdom is looking forward to work with the US to reinvigorate the Mideast peace efforts.

The AHLC, which was formed in 1993, is a body whose primary function is to coordinate the delivery of international aid to Palestinians and the Palestinian Authority.
