Speaker of the Lower House, Abdulmunim Oddat

Ammon News - Speaker of the Lower House, Abdulmunim Oddat, Monday, held two separate meetings with the Chinese and Iraqi ambassadors in Amman for talks on bolstering the ties and cooperation with their respective countries.

In his meeting with Iraq's Ambassador to the Kingdom, Haidar Athari, Oddat said that Jordan fully supports Iraq, emphasizing that the Arab states have a responsibility to support Iraq in its efforts to rebuild the country.

He said that Jordan is keen on building on what has been agreed in the trilateral summits between His Majesty King Abdullah II, Egypt President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Iraq Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi that are aimed at serving the pan-Arab causes.

He highlighted the importance of establishing the long-overdue economic zone between Iraq and Jordan to usher in a regional industrial zone, noting the Kingdom's Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh's, visit to Baghdad and the exchange of delegations between the two countries.

"Jordan is keen on providing all kinds of support to the Iraqi brothers, and we will not spare any effort in helping Iraq return to what it used to be; a strong and unified Iraq that plays a pivotal and influential role in the region in support of its nation and its fateful causes," he added.

For his part, Athari praised His Majesty the King's role in support of Iraq. He emphasized his country's keenness in further developing the Iraq-Jordan economic cooperation, as he described Jordan as the "lung of Iraq."

In a separate meeting, the House Speaker and the Chinese envoy in Amman, Chen Chuandong, discussed the ties between the two countries and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Oddat said Jordan "highly values" the Chinese support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, reiterating the Kingdom's position on the conflict that states that the only solution to the decades-long conflict that would bring about peace is the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.

In turn, Chuandong said Beijing praises the Kingdom's continued effort in upholding peace and stability in the region, highlighting that Jordan has shouldered its humanitarian responsibilities in taking in and caring for refugees.

Also, he lauded the improvement in the Jordan-China ties, underlining that China is keen on strengthening the cooperation with Jordan on all levels.

He said that China's support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict stems from its belief in the rights of the peoples and its keenness to uphold regional peace and stability.
