Ammon News - Representative of the foodstuff sector in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Raed Hamadeh, said trade activity has increased by more than 50% on Friday, due to the active domestic tourism.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, he said the citizens' purchase demand from restaurants, poultry, travel shops, and groceries confirms the need to encourage domestic tourism to support the trade and service sectors, which have been affected since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and to help them fulfill their obligations.
Hamada stated that the restaurants, foodstuffs and dessert shops cannot "bear any new closures or steps that hinder their work," calling on various commercial and service sectors to strictly apply to measures to prevent the virus.
The number of restaurants and pastry shops in the kingdom is about 18,000, employing about 100,000 workers, mostly Jordanians, according to official figures.
