Biden sworn in as 46th US President

US President-elect Joe Biden was sworn in to formally start his term and become the 46th President of the United States of America, succeeding outgoing President Donald Trump.

In a speech at the inauguration, held in the Capitol Building in Washington, DC, Biden said that he would be president of all Americans, whether they support him or disagree with him, adding that his inauguration day is "a victory for democracy."

Biden called for national unity and supporting democracy, promising to "defeat white supremacy and domestic terrorism," two weeks after the storming of the Capitol.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, John Roberts, had overseen Joe Biden's swearing-in, and then Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Sonia Sotomayor, oversaw Vice President Kamala Harris' swearing-in.

The inauguration was attended by outgoing Vice President Mike Pence, former US presidents and congressional officials, former President Barack Obama and his wife, and former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,
