Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – Official data revealed that Jordan imported nearly 1,775 tons of vegetables and 993 tons of fruits from Israel in the first nine months of this year, in addition to varying quantities of over 60 agricultural products.
The Ministry of Agriculture disclosed information on the types and quantities of imported products upon a request submitted by Parliamentarian Deputy Hamza Mansour, yet it did not disclose the names of merchants who imported the products as the deputy requested.
The data reveal that Jordan imported over 14 types of vegetables and 8 types of fruits, including 171 tons of potatoes, 1537 tons of carrots, 67 tons of green pepper, 49 tons of avocado, 25.6 tons of melon, and 551 tons of mangos in the past nine months.
It is noted that a number of Jordanian organizations, including the Council of Jordanian Professional Associations and the Confronting Normalization organization had been urging farmers and merchants to boycott Israeli products in light of Israeli violations of Palestinian rights and the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
Calls to boycott Israeli products grew louder around the 15th anniversary of the inking of the Wadi Araba peace treaty between Israel and Jordan, which opened means of normalization including economic trade between the two countries.
