Trade minister stresses need to beef up market monitoring

Ammon News - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Maha Al-Ali, stressed the need to intensify market monitoring to follow-up on the extent of businesses' adherence to health safety requirements, according to defense orders, in line with the gov't plan to gradually reopen shut down sectors.

The minister also indicated the need to focus on related awareness campaigns on economic establishments countrywide to adhere to safety and preventive health measures, by wearing face masks, observing social distancing and avoiding overcrowding.

Chairing a meeting on Sunday, of the ministries and government institutions tasked to implement Defense Order 20, she said an assessment will be made every two weeks within the plan to gradually reopen economic sectors.

The minister urged strengthening the inspection teams to monitor the "largest" possible number of businesses, to cover all the Kingdom's regions round the week, including Fridays.

Noting the recent impact of gov't decision, the minister said the inspection activities have increased after Defense Order 20 was issued, which have doubled the number of businesses inspected per month, compared to the pre-order period.

Per Defense Order 20, the gov't ministries tasked to monitor businesses include ministries of industry, agriculture, tourism, labor, environment, social development, local administration, municipalities, as well as Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), the Social Security Corporation (SSC), Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC), and Energy and Mineral Regulatory Commission (EMRC).
