Ammon News - A national campaign to vaccinate vulnerable groups and frontline health workers against the coronavirus disease kicked off Wednesday morning across the Kingdom.
In Aqaba, an 88-year-old woman was the first to receive the vaccine at the Aqaba Comprehensive Health Center, following the arrival of the China-UAE Sinopharm vaccine and the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine earlier this week.
Director of Health Affairs in the governorate, Saeb Hiyasat, said in a press statement that the medical personnel in Aqaba began administrating the shots to citizens since 09:00am, stressing that the vaccine is a "building block", alongside other safety measures, toward returning to normalcy.
Meanwhile, the Ma'an Comprehensive Health Center has been designated as the main vaccination point and as a main supply center for the southern region, according to Amjad Abu Darwish, Health Affairs Director for the Ma'an Governorate.
Abu Darwish said that the target groups are medical personnel and the elderly with chronic illnesses, while the vaccine will later be provided to the rest of the groups through registration on the COVID-19 vaccination digital platform.
He called on citizens to register on the platform to receive the vaccine, protect themselves, their families and those around them from getting infected with the virus, explaining that the Department continues to implement precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus in public facilities.
In Madaba, the Health Affairs Director, Muhammad al-Shawabkeh, said that the inoculation began at eight in the morning at the district center, indicating that 120 people who had registered through the platform were vaccinated. He pointed out that there are three vaccination sites in the North Madaba and Theban comprehensive centers, urging citizens to register on the platform.
