Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, stressed the need to find a political horizon to kickstart serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

Safadi's gave his remarks in a joint statement following the fourth ministerial meeting of the Munich Group, which was held in Cairo along with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, France, Jean-Yves Le Drian, and Germany, Heiko Maas.

Safadi thanked the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and said that the meeting "was held to confirm our commitment to the centrality of the Palestinian issue as an issue that must remain at the top of the regional and international agenda in order to solve it on the foundations that guarantee reaching the just and comprehensive peace that we all want."

Safadi also thanked his Egyptian counterpart for hosting the meeting and thanked Foreign Ministers of Germany and France for their efforts and commitment to resolve the conflict, which is the main conflict in the region.

"We are gathering in conditions that witness deterioration and retreat in the chances of achieving peace, and today as we meet, the Israeli government announced the construction of 800 new settlement units in the occupied Palestinian territories, in clear violation of international law and additional Israeli steps that undermine the two-state solution, and undermine all chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace, which is a strategic choice for us, and a necessity to achieve security and stability in the region," Safadi said.

Safadi added, "We have to move clearly and effectively," to confront these measures, stressing that "the two-state solution that embodies the independent Palestinian state with sovereignty and occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the lines of June 4, 1967 in accordance with international law, according to references and according to the Arab Peace Initiative, is the only way to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace."

Safadi underlined the need for clear positions regarding the construction and expanding of settlements, home demolitions, land confiscations, attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in the Al-Haram Al-Sharif / Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

He noted that Jordan, its brothers and partners want peace and realize that resolving the Palestinian issue is a must for achieving comprehensive and lasting peace, warning of the alternative to the two-state solution which would be the one-state option based on the apartheid system.
