Ammon News - The Lower House Monday debated the government's policy statement for the fifth day in a row before a vote of confidence in the cabinet of Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh.

In today's session, which was chaired by Speaker Abdel Muneim Odat and attended by Khasawneh and members of the cabinet, lawmakers registered their demands, which focused primarily on improving health services and infrastructure to fight the spread of coronavirus and compensating day laborers for losses from the pandemic.

MP Mohammad Ababneh called for the return of school and university students to the classrooms and to consider remote learning as a backup to direct education and to open up the various sectors, which were shut down during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

MP Aref Saydeh said that the pandemic directly impacted the people's lives, economically and socially, which required considering the citizens' livelihoods a top priority.

MP Abdel Karim Doghmi of the Shaab (people) bloc called for enhancing checks and balances and warned against interference in the parliament's business by "some" institutions, and also called for a "really" independent judiciary.

Other lawmakers called for fighting corruption and nepotism and enhancing the role of oversight and accountability entities, boosting political and democratic exercise and reducing university tuitions to suit the families' incomes.
