Ammon News -

Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh Sunday discussed with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio Jordanian-Italian relations and a number of Middle East issues.

During the meeting at the Prime Ministry, Khasawneh stressed that Jordan is keen to cement cooperation with Italy in the various political and economic domains. The talks were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and the Italian ambassador to Jordan, Fabio Cassese.

The Prime Minister pointed out that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, always underlines the importance of its partnership with the European Union countries and looks forward to strengthening joint cooperation.

The meeting dealt with developments related to the Palestinian issue. In this context, Khasawneh warned that the failure to bring about an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital will deprive the region from security and stability. He paid tribute to Italy's contributions and role to find a solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Also, the Prime Minister reviewed financial and economic challenges facing Jordan, which were compounded by the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, indicating that the government is working to transform the challenges posed by the pandemic into real opportunities for investment in many fields such as the food and pharmaceutical industries, medical equipment and agriculture.

The Italian Foreign Minister said his country is keen to strengthen relations with Jordan and open wider areas for joint cooperation, whether at the bilateral level or through the European Union, stressing that supporting Jordan and its development process and enhancing its security and stability is of utmost importance to Italy and the European Union.

He added that Italy, which will host the G20 summit next October, is keen, in cooperation with many European countries, to make positive contributions to peace in the Middle East region.
