Minister of Health, Nazir Obeidat, said that a plan to provide anti-Covid-19 vaccines is being devised via a joint cell according to needs and requirements.

"A program is also being set up that will include specific dates for giving the vaccine to whoever wants it, how to give it and who is eligible it in terms of priority, in addition to determining the place of residence to be able to deliver the vaccine to those who cannot reach it," Obeidat said Wednesday in joint press conference with Minister of State for Media Affairs, and the government's spokesperson, Ali Al-Ayed, at the Prime Ministry.

"The vaccine is free and has no serious side effects," Obeidat explained, indicating that the ministry will finish distributing refrigerators for the vaccination in the coming days.

The health minister pointed out that "the vaccine so far is optional, and we can make it compulsory according to the health law," calling on people who have hypersensitivity to disclose this before giving them the vaccine so that they can be dealt with in the best way. He also asked citizens to register for the vaccine for free via the online platform: http://vaccine.jo.

Obeidat noted that the global epidemiological situation is still unstable, especially since many countries in the world announced the emergence of a new strain of the coronavirus, stressing at the same time that (PCR) tests in the Kingdom are able to detect the mutated strain, as the ministry is tracking the two infected cases of the new strain, and ensuring that their contacts are placed under home isolation while communicating with them to ensure their commitment to safety measures and check on their health condition.

"We are witnessing a decrease in the occupancy rates of isolation beds allocated to Covid-19 patients in hospitals, with the opening of field hospitals that had a major role in relieving the pressure on hospitals," the minister said. He also indicated that the commitment of citizens had a role in reducing the rates of infections and the numbers of deaths.

Regarding easing restrictions, Obaidat said, "We will review the epidemiological situation every two weeks to open any new sectors ... We hope to maintain this state of commitment and avoid gatherings, events and celebrations, and to adhere to wearing masks and using sterilizers."
