Ammon News - The security strategy, including plans, programmes and objectives, has been mapped out in accordance with the state policy for the purpose of protecting the higher national interest, Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh has said.

Speaking during a lecture titled “Public Security Strategy and the Concept of Comprehensive Security” at the Royal Jordanian National Defence College (RJNDC), Hawatmeh said that the security strategy is part of a collective action system, as well as joint cooperation and coordination with the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and the General Intelligence Department.

He said that all plans and measures were conducted within set time frames and were completed during 2020 in line with Royal directives towards expanding and improving provided services, and reducing expenses at the same time, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The PSD director added that at the operational level, the Kingdom has been divided into six security jurisdictions, with all public security services clustered within the same region under one command, and each region representing a small security directorate carrying out required duties, which have been reflected positively on the effectiveness, efficiency and speed of response for any event.

Regarding the administration and logistics aspects, these have been merged into single unified departments, namely a single financial department, a training department and a logistics support department, he said,

Ninety-nine units, subsidiary and main administrations were integrated, which resulted in reducing spending by some JD65 million, in addition to contributing to establishing government buildings and other projects directed to the benefit of the public community with an estimated value of JD52 million, he said.

Hawatmeh also highlighted the PSD’s achievements through introducing specialised units to deal with different crime categories, along with its security and community work, including the Department of Family Protection, the Juvenile Police, the Royal Department for Environment Protection and Tourism, as well as units of cybercrime, intellectual property and human trafficking, which operate to keep pace with observed criminal diversity and cross-border crimes.

In December 2019, His Majesty King Abdullah directed the government to merge the Civil Defence and the Gendarmerie departments into the PSD.
