Khasawneh meets 'Future' parliamentary bloc ahead of trust vote

Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, held a meeting Tuesday with the "Future" parliamentary bloc as part of a series of meetings with parliamentary blocs ahead of the new cabinet's submission of its ministerial statement.

Speaker of the Lower House, Abdul Muneim Odat, who chaired the meeting, said should the parliament grant a vote of confidence to Khasawneh's cabinet, work to set priorities will start, adding that the ministerial statement will be discussed at length in the parliament.

Khasawneh said that since its formation, the government was assigned three main and urgent tasks: to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and address its ramifications; support the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to hold the parliamentary elections; to create the public budget.

He said setting the budget, the government has aimed at creating a balance between Jordanians' health and the minimum impact on the national economy.

The premier said that as soon as the government secures the vote of confidence, it will submit a draft public budget law, stressing that the budget bill comes following a tough year "on all levels."

He said that the economic rescission due to the COVID-19 pandemic has shrunk 3 percent, highlighting that the expectations of international institutions suggested 6 percent shrink.

In turn, head of the Future bloc, Abdul Rahman al-Azaidah, said the meeting lays the foundation of a real partnership between the government and the parliamentary blocs based on mutual trust and according to the constitution.
