Christmas bookings at the various hotels in the southern Red Sea port of Aqaba stood at 18 percent of the total combined capacity as the fallout from the coronavirus crisis and mobility restrictions continue to hit the tourism sector, according to Sharhabeel Madhi, the tourism commissioner at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).

In a statement Friday, Madhi said this year's figure is the lowest in a decade, noting that like this time last year, the southern city's hotels had more than 90 percent of their rooms booked.
