Prime Minister, Dr. Bishr Khasawneh, visited the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Amman on Thursday and congratulated Christians on Christmas and New Year.
Speaking during his meeting with the heads of Christian churches, attended by a group of ministers, Khasawneh said: " Jordanians live together, Muslims and Christians, in this country in which all the values of true citizenship, and harmony are intertwined in relation to all its religious, civilizational, cultural and human components."
The PM pointed out that the wise Hashemite leadership upholds all the values of brotherhood and tolerance and works to push Jordanians' contributions within a national framework.
Addressing the churches' chiefs, the PM lauded the Hashemite's "historical" role in preserving the Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem within the framework of the Hashemite custodianship.
In this context, the premier underlined the church leaders' role to preserve the holy sites and the existing historic status quo and confront any attempts to tamper with and alter the existing reality on the ground within the framework of the comprehensive Hashemite trusteeship on Islamic and Christian sanctities.
To help curb Covid-19 pandemic, the PM lauded the Christian leaders' initiative to adhere to public safety measures and social distancing during Christmas celebrations, stressing that "our country has resilience to overcome hardships and challenges."
In turn, Bishop Joseph Jabara of of Petra, Philadelphia, said:" Jordan continues to be an oasis of security, peace and tranquility for its people and all who live on its soil, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives, the gov't follow-up, and the efforts of the armed forces and security departments to maintain security and order."
