Ammon News - The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, have completed implementation of the second phase of distributing 6,992 food parcels to underprivileged Jordanian and refugees.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, JHCO said the food assistance project targeted the needy Jordanian families and Syrian refugees in the governorates of Mafraq, Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun, Madaba, and the capital Amman, in cooperation with local stakeholders.

This project, which was funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Open Civil Society Foundation - London (OSFL), is an aid package to the Jordanian government to mitigate repercussions and burdens triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected Jordanian families and Syrian refugees, ravaged as their businesses were disrupted, or income sources were stalled due to the crisis.

The JHCO's Assistant Secretary-General, Mohammed Kilani, said the six governorates' beneficiaries were identified with the support of the National Aid Fund (NAF) and the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in coordination with the administrative governors and social development offices, as 6,992 families benefited in the first phase, similar to the number in the second phase, with a total of 13,984 beneficiary families.

In total, he pointed out that the project aims to outreach 34,960 families in five stages across the Kingdom.
