Ammon News - Germany confirmed its commitment to the most vulnerable refugees by providing a 65 million euros ($76.9 million) contribution to the United Nations World Food Program for 2020 and 2021.
The contribution provided by the German Federal Foreign Office will enable the program to continue providing monthly cash transfers to about 500,000 refugees, including those residing in the Zaatari and Azraq camps, to meet their food needs, the program said Wednesday in a statement.
In the statement, German ambassador to Jordan, Bernhard Kampmann, said that refugees and most vulnerable communities faced enormous challenges due to the Covid-19 crisis, "and we are pleased to continue supporting the food program in its efforts to reach the most vulnerable groups in Jordan," noting that his country has provided $540 million in additional funding to cover urgent needs caused by the coronavirus.
Resident Representative and Country Director for the program in Jordan, Alberto Correa Mendes, expressed the program's gratitude for Germany's continued support, especially during difficult times due to the coronavirus pandemic, which affected the most vulnerable groups.
