Ammon News - The Ministry of Agriculture has raised the state of alert to high to face any "potential" danger imposed by desert locusts, after follow-ups showed that locust swarms had reached some regions in the neighboring Saudi Arabia and due to the the possibility that some swarms may cross into Jordan driven by southern winds.
According to a press release issued on Sunday, the ministry, in cooperation with the National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM), has developed a "coordinated" plan to monitor and combat the desert locusts to face any emergency, with the participation of the armed forces, Public Security Directorate (PSD), the Ministry of Interior and other government institutions.
On steps taken on the ground, the Ministry said it has deployed trained anti-locust teams, spraying equipment and distributed pesticides used to combat desert locusts.
