‏Jordan records 49 deaths and 1816 new Covid-19 infections

The Ministry of Health announced 49 Covid-19 fatalities and 1816 new cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 3335 and caseload to 257275.

The new cases comprised 465 infections in the capital, Amman, 599 in Irbid, including 6 in northern border district of Ramtha, 222 in Mafraq, 122 in Jerash, 101 in Ajloun, 99 in Balqa, 64 in Karak, 47 in Zarqa, 46 in Tafila, 45 in Aqaba, 5 in Madaba and one case in Ma'an, according to the media statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The total of currently active infections is standing at 40596, while the number of patients admitted on Saturday to hospitals has reached 112, and 83 cases have left hospitals, said the statement.

The statement added that the total confirmed cases receiving treatment in hospitals has reached 1178 cases, while the total number of isolation beds used in healthcare facilities for confirmed and susceptible cases on Friday has hit 1008 with an occupancy rate of 23 percent.

The total number of ICU beds used in hospitals for confirmed and susceptible cases on Friday has reached 340 with an occupancy rate of 38%, according to the joint statement.

The total number of ventilators used in hospitals for confirmed and susceptible cases on Friday reached 173, with an occupancy rate of 20 percent, the statement added.

The statement indicated that 3598 recovered cases were recorded on Saturday in home isolation and hospitals, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 213344.

Meanwhile, 13268 lab Covid-19 tests were administered today, bringing the cumulative number of tests to 2810294, the statement noted, adding that the share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, standing at 13.69 percent.

The Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also called on the public to follow its awareness campaign, which aims to prevent the spread of Covid-19 through increasing public commitment to preventive measures to protect individuals, their families and society members.
