Ammon News - The University of Jordan (UJ) has virtually attended the online meeting of the 6th General Assembly of the Silk Road Universities Network (SUN), recently held in Ankara, Turkey.

A statement by the University on Monday said that the meeting tackled the activities carried out by the Network during the past five years, along with the financial and administrative reports. "A new president for the next five years was also elected," it added.

Professor Salameh Naimat, who represented the JU at the meeting, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that on the sidelines of the meeting, working papers were presented addressing the Silk Road as a platform to support multiculturalism, peace and prosperity among the countries of the world.

"In my research paper, I addressed the importance of the road over the history, mainly in facilitating trade exchange between the countries, along with the cultural and civilized interaction between different civilizations," he added, indicating that the silk road has always been a valuable resource for historians of the 21st century to understand the nature of relations between East and West.

The University of Jordan is a founding member of the SUN, which is non-governmental, non-profit international organization, based in Korea since 2015, and currently includes 82 universities from different countries.
